Sakinah is a browser extension designed to help users reduce access to websites they choose to block and to provide optional prayer-time information. Sakinah is designed with privacy and local user control in mind.
1. Information Stored by Sakinah
Sakinah stores certain settings locally in the browser using Chrome's extension storage. This information is used to make the extension function according to your choices.
This may include:
- Whether protection is enabled or disabled.
- Your selected content-filter categories.
- Websites you manually add to your blocked list.
- Your selected prayer location.
- Prayer-time preferences such as calculation method and madhab.
These settings are stored locally by the extension and are not used to create a user account or user profile.
2. Browsing Activity
Sakinah does not intentionally collect, store, or transmit your browsing history.
Website blocking is performed by the browser's extension filtering capabilities. Sakinah does not maintain a remote history of the websites you visit.
3. Location Information
Sakinah does not request your device's GPS or browser geolocation. Instead, the prayer-time feature allows you to manually search for and select a city.
When you search for a city, the search text is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service to find matching locations. When you select a location, Sakinah stores the selected location information locally so that it can display prayer times.
Sakinah does not intentionally collect a precise device location in the background.
4. Third-Party Services
Some optional Sakinah features use third-party services. These services receive information necessary to provide the requested feature and operate under their own policies.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim
Sakinah uses the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service when you manually search for a city. The service is used to convert your search into a location that Sakinah can use for prayer times.
AlAdhan
Sakinah uses the AlAdhan Prayer Times API to retrieve prayer times for your selected location. Requests may include the selected latitude and longitude, the requested date, and prayer-time calculation settings.

5. Information Sakinah Does Not Collect
Sakinah does not intentionally collect:
- Your name or personal profile information.
- Your account credentials or passwords.
- Your browsing history.
- Your search history.
- The contents of websites you visit.
- Advertising or analytics identifiers.
- Precise device location through browser geolocation.
6. Data Sharing and Sale
Sakinah does not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Sakinah does not operate an advertising network or use personal information for targeted advertising.
Information may be transmitted to the third-party services described in Section 4 when you use features that depend on those services.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Sakinah's extension settings are stored locally in your browser. You can remove those settings by removing the extension or clearing the extension's stored data through your browser.
Data handled by third-party services is subject to the respective service's policies and retention practices.
8. Children's Privacy
Sakinah is not specifically directed toward children under 13. Sakinah does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Security
Sakinah is designed to minimize the amount of information it handles. Local settings remain within the browser unless an optional feature requires communication with a third-party service as described above.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Sakinah's features, data practices, or third-party services change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
